Me and My Monkey (pants)

I love love LOVE this monkey spat pattern! They are a breeze to sew and use a small amount of fabric, so you can re-fashion anything as small as a onesie for the bum patch. From what I've gathered, I'm not the only one having trouble finding interesting knit prints, but when you only need a bit as here, it opens up a world of options. This gem of a pattern is by Danslalune on etsy and I've noticed a skinny leg version is now available if you and your lil man swing that way.

One particularly thrifty sort of day I went hunting specifically for interesting knit prints and came back with the Cloud. The Lion is one of Archie's old onesies. The Pandas are from Hudson's shorts. The legs from left to right are made from a t-shirt, my sweaty old track pants and my brother's non-sweaty sweater...feeling pretty virtuous!

Can a bum get any cuter?

No, thats right, it cannot (Correct Answer)

  1. I just bought the skinny leg version. As in 5 minutes ago. Even though I think I could wing it with the design and make my own version, I like to support small business. I'm planning on making them wide leg too, but I couldn't justify buying both patterns when the only difference is the leg width. So much for that small business support! I can't wait to make a few...or a dozen. I wish I had found this pattern when Vinny was younger. Oh well, an excuse to make them for my two girlfriends who just had babies in January.

    1. I've been doing the same thing! I think it's Sophie's fault. I *could* make my own pattern but her stuff turns out SO CUTE with bought patterns. Also it's easier and you don't have to think as hard!

  2. Hi Sascha! Haha, I know, I've been considering buying the skinny leg version as well, but like you, decided I could probably just adjust the leg width, and get two out of one. And yes, what will we do when our youngest boys have grown out of all the cutest patterns...

  3. These are awesome!!! I LOVE how they are completely refashioned. Cheap, cute and sustainable, wowzers! Lots of my friends are having babies at the moment, I'll investigate that pattern I think.

  4. I don't know why my second comment didn't post today but I left a p.s. comment. Just wanted to say I felt guilty about not buying both patterns and I decided to get the skinny leg version as well as the wider leg. It is enough of a difference that I'm happy.

I put a link to this post on my post today.

  6. One of my all time favorite blogs belongs to Rosi at Schnabelina's World. The blog is in German, but I just use google to translate her blog, and for her ebooks, I copy and paste the parts I don't understand. But, she writes excellent tutorials and they are very easy to understand, even with the language barrier. She offers all of her patterns for free, with ebook tutorials. Her most popular pattern is for a onesie, which she calls her "Rainbow Body", and she offers 5 video tutorials for various necklines and their construction, and she even graded the pattern to fit different brands of dolls!! She also has patterns for monkey pants, kids jeans, hooded dress, body dress w/leggings, a jacket that can be sewn w/or w/out sleeves and w/or w/out a hood from newborn to toddler (mini) to big kids. She has 3 different hat patterns (2 sunhats, 1 infants hat) , a bib pattern, 5 minute bib tutorial, cosmetic bag, and mom and daughter rockli (swing) skirts. Her most recent pattern is for her Schnabelina bag which comes in sizes S/M/L and is part of her 10 day sew along that she just finished. The greatest thing about her is that she allows for up to 20 items made from each of her patterns to be sold by WAHMs.
