To be honest I'm a bit of a mad Ergo baby carrier devotee. I've recommended it to so many unwitting mothers that any day now Ergo will call and announce that, as their unofficial sales rep, 5c from every carrier will be donated to me. So before this becomes an Ergo rant, I must press that no baby carrier (and we've tested a few) has compared to its comfort and convenience, especially for a mum who goes handbag / pram-free when she can get away with it.
and the verdict...
We love our Pea Pod! I followed Sascha's recommendation of making the shoulder strap wider over the shoulder area, than the original measurement for added comfort. So even with the weight distributed off-centre it supports this 10kg bruiser with surprising comfort. A great pattern with easy construction. Not to mention it's mighty purty too!
Always wanted to make this hip carrier (I'm a hugh beco and boba fan by the way), but always postponed, even though I allready have all the equipement. If you're so enthousiastic, maybe I schould just go ahead and make it aswell...
ReplyDeleteOoohhh... don't tempt me! This is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteooo its pretty! love the fabric!
ReplyDeleteLove it, love the fabric, I want it! If my baby wasn't almost a year I'd totally make one. Great job!
ReplyDeleteso awesome! i just downloaded the pattern, even though i'm a huge ergo devotee myself. it is hard to switch back and forth for hip carry with the ergo, though, so i think i just talked myself into making this! you look beautiful in the photos, too. :)
ReplyDeleteToo cute.
ReplyDeleteI've been eyeing this pattern off for a while.
It's now on my to do list.
Have a great week.
Whoa! You made my day when I saw this post!!! I loooooove your carrier. It looks better than mine. I hope you enjoy using it. I actually recently had to use mine again with my two year old because he was being a pain in the ass and wanted to be carried through Costco. I thought he would balk when I clipped him into it, but he just hung out, 32 pounds and all. It had been months since I used it and I thought no way would he go for it. He actually got down twice but back up and I was happy to be able to re-install him quickly. I still love my Ergo BTW, just better for when we know he will need a nap.
ReplyDeleteI'm doing the happy happy Joy Joy dance ;)
I'm still searching a carrying possibility for my second baby (will be born soon) and thought about a Mai Tai, but after reading your post i think i will try this one. It seams easier to put on, to sew and the pattern is for free :)
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for testing and writing about it!
sunny greetings
from the other side of the world :)
Sylvia
PS: very cute fotos - like always!
thanks so much for this idea! i've been needing a carrier for my babe and have kept my far far away fabrics for something just as special. thank you!
ReplyDeleteNice job, I love your version. How wide did you make your shoulder strap? I want to make this and am not sure how wide would be best. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Kimberly, that's awesome! I think I measured out the original dimensions of the straps first and before cutting, just found where I thought the middle was and took it out probably another inch on each side sloped it down gradually. You only want it wider through the middle where you think your shoulder is...
ReplyDeleteHi, i would like to ask you which size of buckle you have used for the shoulderpart?
ReplyDeleteThank you! Cynthia
Hi Cynthia! I used a 50mm / 2" buckle. Hope that helps.
DeleteHow do I find/purchase this pattern?
