KCWC Day one / Black-bird-butt sarouels

Today marks day one of the Elsie Marley Kids Clothing Week Challenge! Not next Monday. As I thought this morning when I woke up, casually, sauntered downstairs, casually, had a semi-casual breakfast, then sidled over to blogger, where I noticed every second post had 'KCWC' in the title. Still casually, I thought: 'wow everyone is really getting into the preparations this time' and then I read 'KCWC day one' and realized mid-mouthful, and less casually that KCWC begins today.  So first, the bad news: Preparation is nigh. But the good news: I didn't choke on my poached egg. And it's actually a good thing that I didn't spend a week cutting things out and setting myself for an epic KCWC (which I can't help). Between Hudson turning two this week and Archie having some dentistry done under general anaesthetic next week (quietly fretting), mama is full to the brim with life 'stuffs'. So by default I'm happily taking the no-plans-see-what-gets-done approach.

To eeeeassse into things I decided to attend to these half finished Sarouels which were abandoned for lack of blue thread and an inclination to get more. I used the same tutorial as these Sarouels which have both been worn to death (literally, they are filthy) all winter. I used ribbing for the cuffs and drawstring and got the rest of it out of this men's tee. As far as plans go for the rest of the week, I'd really like to use up some more of these thrifty finds for re-fashions.

  1. I absolutely love the bird design and it looks fantastic as sarouels. I've got to try your tutorial soon. Sounds like a hectic time for you. Poor Archie - that's really young for major dentistry. Happy Birthday to Hudson.

  2. Full of life stuff.... so true. Keeping my fingers crossed for the dental appointment - sounds quite scary. And the birds are lovely.

  5. I love these Sophie! The fabric is so cute. I tried making myself a pair of the sarouels and while I LOVE them, I can't rock them as well as a kid does ahah.

  8. fantastic little britches!
Have fun casually doing KCWC ^_^ That's pretty much what I'm doing since it seems when I plan to get anything done, and I set my heart on it, everything goes wrong and nobody here is happy. So no plans, just seeing what happens. Good luck on that dentistry business. I'm terrified of having to have work done on any of my kids in the future. For whatever reason, the whole dentist thing/tooth decay really freaks me out. *shudder*

  9. Sarouels! Oh how I love your sarouels! I have this tutorial on my list. Yes... full of life stuff... I know that all too well. Although sometimes life can be full of other "things" that gets in the way too! HA! Cheers to Hudson and hugs for Archie.

  11. Good luck with Archie's general anaesthetic. My son has gone under twelve times this year, but the first was the most confronting. Make sure you have something to occupy your mind during the procedure! And lovely pants of course.

  12. Love these! The birds are awesome! And ya for KCWC. I actually attempt to prepare this time... doesn't mean it'll work though, ha. because life will likely intervene! Anyway I totally want to make a bunch of these for M this winter! I just gotta get around to it! hah. And yay to little boys turning 2, and boo to the dentist, hope all goes well.

  13. Love the black drawstring and cuffs on those sweet pants. Hang in there regarding the dentist stuff. Both my boys had dental work under g.a. this summer; I found it helped to go for a walk with little or big brother during. Here's rootin' for more fantastic sewing!
